Mathbat is a loosely affiliated of crew of ranting vampires, demented lab assistants, and rapping farm squids.
We have been quietly releasing free electronic music and video experiments since 1995, semi-regularly issuing warped takes on IDM, electronic funk, eerie soundtracks, and apocalyptic folk. Mathbat Records includes one or more of the following "bands" - Mathbat, Philosopede, Batfist, Crepusculous, MemCon (aka Membrane Conspiracy, Membrane Codex, Memory Corpuscle, Membranous Conglomerulonephritis, etc.), and releases are frequently accompanied by art and animation by Sean Hopp.
Eulogy for the Instruments of Control
A meditation in the dark.
This track actually started from a failed attempt at a Dark Ambient cover of Tom Waits' Gun Street Girl.. There's obviously not much left of that here, except for some pitch-shifted cowbell (that sounds like church bells) and the "guitar" sounds (that are actually a banjo).
Energy battling the void for existence. Visual references to atoms, stars, supernova, creation, destruction, and the door to the underworld.
Music and animation by Sean Hopp. Produced by Philosopede.
This track celebrates the insect's superior mating habits and inevitable triumph over humanity.
Music and animation by MemCon. Produced by Philosopede.
An anonymous and possibly impaired driver takes a turbulent voyage down Irving Park road and the northwest Chicago neighborhoods... avoiding pedestrians while meditating on corruption, lies, and misrepresentation in culture and politics.
Music and animation by Sean Hopp. Produced by Philosopede.
